Science Station photograph

FYI:  There are four “Human Organ System” stations in our classroom.  They are “Circulatory”, “Digestive”, “Muscular/Skeletal” and “Excretory”.  The other four (Skin, Repiratory, Immune, and Nervous) are stationed in Mrs. T.’s room.  Students complete one station and then move to the next when science is next on the schedule.

Science Periods in December

Mrs. T and I have worked out a schedule for the grade fives to rotate through 8 science stations that support our study of “Human Organ Systems”.  Because of this science rotary (some days in Mr. Murphy’s room for science, some days in Mrs. T’s), our regular schedule has been adjusted. (follow the link for our timetable)     Timetable 2011 December

SCIENCE WORDS QUIZ: Fri., Dec. 2nd

We have begun learning science words and reading science articles during our Language block.  Starting on the week of November 28th, our Social Studies time will be replaced by science time as we officially begin our “Human Organ Systems” unit of study.

On Friday, December 2nd, I’d like to have a short quiz on ten science words that we’ve studied in class together (focused on spelling and meanings).  The ten words are highlighted in the Word Work page on this blog.  Students have access to science text books which contain a glossary of meanings for these words.

Field Trip in the New Year

Mrs. Tjeerdsma and I are looking for feedback from the parents and guardians of our grade five students.  There are two possible field trips that we are trying to arrange.  We want to know if there is interest in going to a) the Leonardo da Vinci interactive exhibit at the SCIENCE CENTRE (about a $30 trip) , or b) the science programmes put on near Collingwood at the HIGHLANDS NORDIC CENTRE (about a $20.00 trip), or c) enough interest in going on both trips this school year.

Parents/guardians can give me their input via their child’s agenda.  Thanks!

We’ve arrived!!

Our classroom is now the portable at Minesing Central!  As you can see in the photo, we’ve got some tidying up to do.  The important thing is that we are in!

In the morning, I’ve asked students to line up outside the portable doors (not on the stairs) until the bell.  After school, bus students will be dismissed from the portable at the bus bell, and walking students from the portable at the final bell.
