Grade 5 note

Be sure to share any human body system research with partners.  Please start finding time, even sometimes at home if you can log into your drive, and make your presentation better.  Ask yourself, “What further questions” does my research bring up for me to answer.  That’s what good research its….figuring out all the questions that come up and being prepared to answer for them.

Attached here is the assignment:  We’ve been working on it for 2 weeks.  It is due in one week from now (Thursday, November 9th)

BODY SYSTEMS inquiry assignment-130o1g6

Grade 4 Note

We are planning a “Plant Growth” experiment.  After brainstorming as a group, we came up with the following list of materials needed.  If your household has any extra of the following, we’d appreciate using it:

  1.  soil…useable soil for indoor plants (unfertilized)
  2. plants…10cm to 15cm height plants that are safe to touch.  (we need at least 6 similar plants to experiment with)
  3. containers…our most creative idea was to find 6 old shoes, line them for planting and, voila!  (or plastic containers could work too)
  4. common plant fertilizer.  (if you’ve got any extra “Miracle-Gro”, for example.

Patterning Word Problem

Don’t forget to finish your patterning word problem!  (Create a word problem for a grade 4/5 audience.  The solution should involve patterning.)  Answer your own problem, too.  Show your solution in the best way possible.

Grade 5 Note

Here is a photo of the quick poster on the class wall to complete the sheet called “How Laws are Made in Canada” for Friday.  (click it for an enlargement)

Thursday’s Note

  1.  Enjoy your long weekend.
  2. Math sheet (both grades) was not looked at today.  Please try your best to have both sides done for Monday.
  3. Food orders due Monday (see “Paper Work” above for form.
  4. Place value tests were handed back and should be reviewed and signed at home for return Monday.
  5. Grade Five math test:  Question #1 will be redone (in a different version) by most when we get back to it as a class.

Wednesday’s Long Note

  1.  Please have one side of the recent math sheet done for Thursday (patterning sheet in both grades)
  2. Food Orders (pizza, milk, etc) are due to the school by Monday.  On the “Paper Work” pull-down of this blog, there is a link to the food order sheets.
  3. Spirit Wear orders (check the school website) are due tomorrow.
  4. We are attempting to collect one half a cup of flour from each student in my class so that we can make some easy clay that will be useful in a math problem.  If you have any, please send it in.
  5. We are looking for flat cardboard or very thin, useable plywood or other hard surface material that could be used in place of canvas for painting.

Language Class

In Language class, I’ve been reading the novel The Way to Schenectady (by Canadian author, Richard Scrimger) to the class.  Below is a photo of the bulletin board display that the students have been responsible for developing.  As well, today I introduced a writing assignment.  The students will be writing about an event from their own lives in a “personal recount”.  More to follow as we develop ideas…

Thursday’s Note

  1.  Tomorrow is the Elmvale Fair!  I sent a note home with some important information.
  2. Grade Five:  I handed out a science note today that lists the body systems.  Next week, I’ll be helping the students to partner up and begin deeper research about one of those body systems.  Grade Four posters were due today.
  3. QSP Magazine Fundraising packages were handed out today.
  4. Happy Thanksgiving!
