Math Test on Thursday

There will be a math test on Thursday this week (both grades).  It will cover the ideas that we have been working on in “Number Sense:  Place Value”.  Below is the note on the board that we went over today to cover the ideas that will be covered.

Math Homework

We have had 6 Math sheets (both grades have 6) for over two weeks “on the go” in the classroom.  The first three have been taken up.  Now, it’s time for the final three sheets to be taken up as we’ve had enough time in the classroom.  The final three are due tomorrow.  (“Nelson Publisher” math sheets about place value ideas.)

It was like watching paint dry…

Actually, it was better than watching paint dry because it was in the name of good science.  We watched ice melt!  We made predictions first about the rate of melting, and about whether larger chunks of ice would take longer…and if so…how much longer.  We got into reasoning and all sorts of fantastic scientific thinking with our very simple experiment.  One of us, without even being asked to, timed the whole event.  The chunks that were about a Mr. Murphy sized handful took 2 hours and 28 seconds to melt.

New School Year Begins

The new school year begins on Tuesday, September 4th for students.

If you had subscribed to this blog during the 2017/18 school year (last year), it’s time to unsubscribe.

The parents/guardians of Mr. Murphy’s new class of students for the 2018/19 school year will be invited to subscribe once class begins.

Thank-you.

Mr. M.

Grade 5 Note

A letter about the 2018/19 grade six Camp Kandalore trip was sent to all families who presently have a grade five student at Minesing Central (sent via your email).  It was about placing a required deposit of $50 for the trip.  I posted the same letter on this blog (Paperwork, above) if you should miss it via email.  Please send along the deposit for the trip if you believe your child will be taking part in the trip.
