I just added a “Grade 5 Social Studies” page up above to this blog. It contains useful links for our inquiry project.

Baking Day Fun
Life is a Highway Video
Now that the school submission to the CBC music contest has gone public, I can share the YouTube link. Here it is below…
Notes from Tues. Nov. 27th
- Grade 5: Our cake teams are formed and organized. Soon, we’ll come up with a date on the calendar for students to bring in their part of a cake recipe that we aim to bake here.
- Recycling and Garbage: The classroom recycling and garbage containers have been misused for some time (messy, food waste in wrong bins, improper recycling habits after learning how…). If able, please talk at home about food waste responsibilities when the portable becomes a lunch room.
Notes from Tuesday
- Grade 4 only: Bring in your Habitat building materials (to Mrs. Sage’s classroom)
- All students: There are 4 or 5 who still need to bring in their pink permission forms for tomorrow’s “Life is a Highway” (LIAH) final taping.
- Blue/Yellow: Wear full on spirit wear and “blue and yellow it up” for tomorrow’s “LIAH” taping.
- Student/Parent/Teacher conferences continue this week on Thursday and Friday. Parents can email pamurphy@scdsb.on.ca if the time scheduled has been forgotten.
- Friday is a “P.A.” day.
WE are silent (Tuesday)
Tomorrow, we go silent…for at least half the day. It will be a fun and interesting day to support the “Me to WE” silent campaign to support children who do not have freedom like we do.
Monday, November 5th
- Today, the recent “rounding” test in math (both grades) went home marked. Please sign it and have your child return it to me so I can record it.
- I put a link for grade 5 on the side “Blog Roll”. It is called SCIENCE: Caramel Cake. (It is for a “chemical changes” activity which we’ll hopefully be able to eat if we are successful. (Grade fours…we’ll share…)
Classroom Displays
I added a new page on this site (above) called Classroom Displays. This is to show recent displays of student work that hang in our portable.
Returning Math Tests
My goal is to return the recent math tests (tomorrow) that have now been finished by most students for our first number sense unit.
Grade 5 Science
Marked “write-ups” for our Experiment #1 were handed back today.
